  • You must include the forward slashes in your temporary password
  • Please change your password to something memorable by logging in to password self-service on the website.

Online enrolment

Most students are required to complete online enrolment (pre-registration) before starting their course at UAL. New students and returning international students are also required to attend an enrolment event (more details below).

Student Self Service (SSS) is an online platform that will take you through an online enrolment. It will be open for New Students as of 21 August 2017. Providing you have received instructions to do so, you will therefore be able to enrol online. You will receive an individual email with instructions on how to complete online enrolment.

Online enrolment

To pre-register your information, please enrol online before the date of your enrolment event. You will also agree to the enrolment terms and conditions as part of this process.

Log in to Student Self Service (SSS) with the details below:

  • Username (University email) – you will need to set up your email account to receive your university email address.
  • Password: Your date of birth (dd/mm/yyyy including the forward slashes)
  • Don’t forget to upload a photo to SSS for your UAL student ID card!

Having problems logging in to Student Self Service? You can use the Contact Us button available on every Student Self Service screen. If you have any questions about your course please read through our web pages or contact the Admissions Service.

Enrolment event (new Home/EU students)

Along with instructions on how to enrol online, you will be emailed an invitation to an enrolment event. We want your enrolment event to be as quick as possible, and attending at the appointment time given will ensure that you arrive with others who will be on your course. Arriving at a different time may cause delays. Your enrolment event should take no more than 1 hour.

What to bring:

Identification: We can only accept the following as identification: your current passport, an official EU Identity Card or UK birth certificate and a photocopy.

  • If you are not an EEA national, you must also bring the visa/document you have proving your status in the UK; if you are not sure what to bring, please visit our enrolment for visa holders page to find out more.

Qualifications: Original certificates and photocopies of all qualifications listed in your application – you need to bring these even if your offer is unconditional.

  • If you have been awarded GCSE Maths and English (or equivalent qualifications), please make sure you bring these to enrolment.
  • Your English Language certificate and a photocopy (if applicable)

Payment: Proof that you have paid your tuition fees, or are receiving sponsorship to cover your tuition fees.

  • If you are receiving a UK student loan, you will need to bring the confirmation letter or show it on your smartphone/tablet.
  • If you are a postgraduate student the university normally expects you to pay your fees in full on or before enrolment - however you can also pay by instalments
  • If you are being sponsored by a company or other authority, please bring a printed copy of a letter confirming this.
  • If you are paying by bank transfer please bring your receipt with you.

Enrolment event (new International students)

Along with instructions on how to enrol online, you will be emailed an invitation to an enrolment event. We want your enrolment event to be as quick as possible, and attending at the appointment time given will ensure that you arrive with others who will be on your course. Arriving at a different time may cause delays. Your enrolment event should take no more than 1 hour.

What to bring:

If you already have your passport and visa for study at UAL please bring the following:

Identification: Your current passport and a photocopy

Visa: Your Biometric Residence Permit (BRP) and a photocopy of both sides of the card. If you apply for your visa overseas, you will be given a 30-day ‘travel vignette’ that you will use to enter the UK. You will then need to pick up your BRP from your chosen post office before you will be able to enrol. The letter you receive with your travel vignette explains what you need to do.

The University will not be able to enrol you if you cannot prove you have the correct immigration status to study with us.

Police registration: If you are required to register with the police you must also bring your Police Registration Certificate and a photocopy. Read our guidance to see if this applies to you. Students must report changes to any of the information on their police registration certificate within a specific number of days.

Qualifications: Original certificates and photocopies of all qualifications listed in your application and CAS. Please note that you must bring your translation with you.

  • Your English Language certificate (if applicable) and a photocopy.

Payment: Proof that you have paid your tuition fees, or are receiving sponsorship to cover your tuition fees.

  • If you are receiving sponsorship or funding, please bring a printed copy of a letter confirming this.
  • If you have paid by bank transfer please bring your receipt with you.

If you have a visa for a different university or college, you cannot enrol at UAL unless you have applied for a new visa using a CAS from the University.

Applying for your visa within the UK?

If you do not already have your passport and visa for study at UAL because you have a visa application pending with UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) please visit our enrolment information for visa holders page for further information.

Continuing students

Continuing Home/EU students:

If you are a Home/EU student progressing from one year to the next on the same course, you will be invited to complete your online enrolment by email over the summer and normally you won’t need to attend an enrolment event.

Although you do not need to attend an enrolment event, we do need you to email us proof that you have paid your tuition fees for this academic year.

Proof can be:

  • Student loan confirmation;
  • Online payment receipt;
  • Bank transfer confirmation;
  • Sponsorship confirmation.

You should send proof to the email address provided in your online enrolment email. Please note that you will not receive the first instalment of your maintenance loan until we have confirmed your enrolment.

You will not be fully enrolled until we are able to confirm your tuition fees for this academic year. If you will be paying your tuition fees yourself, you can make a payment or find other ways to pay online.

Continuing international students:

If you are an international student progressing from one year to the next on the same course, you will be invited to complete your online enrolment by email and also attend an enrolment event.

What to bring

You must bring the documents listed below to your enrolment event. If you don’t bring these we may be unable to enrol you.

Identification: Your passport and a photocopy

Visa: Your Biometric Residence Permit (BRP) and a photocopy of both sides of the card. If you apply for your visa overseas, you will be given a 30-day ‘travel vignette’ that you will use to enter the UK. You will then need to pick up your BRP before you will be able to enrol. The letter you receive with your travel vignette explains what you need to do.

The University will not be able to enrol you if you cannot prove you have the correct immigration status to study with us.

If you are studying on a non-Tier 4 visa and are not sure what to bring, please visit our guidance to find out more.

Police registration: If you are required to register with the police you must also bring your Police Registration Certificate and a photocopy. Read our guidance to see if this applies to you.

If you have changed your term time address since registering with the police, you must register this new address at the police station first.

Payment: Proof that you have paid your tuition fees, or are receiving sponsorship to cover your tuition fees.

  • If you are receiving sponsorship or funding, please bring a printed copy of a letter confirming this.
  • If you pay by bank transfer please bring your receipt with you.

Your enrolment will only be complete when you have attended the enrolment event, paid your fees and shown us all of the documents we need to check.

If you hold a Tier 4 visa and you don’t re-enrol for your course then the University will notify UK Visas and Immigration that your visa should be cancelled.

Please also see enrolment information for visa holders.

Students returning after time off

If you are returning to your course after time out or returning to retake part of your course, you will not enrol online. You will need to attend an enrolment event at the University.

You’ll be emailed instructions over the summer that tell you when and where to re-enrol at the University. This will include whether you need to pay any tuition fees or not. The email will be sent to your UAL and personal email addresses, so make sure that you check both regularly.

If you are an international student needing a Tier 4 visa, you will need to prepare to apply for your visa well in advance of your return. If you are not sure what you need to do, you should contact the student advice service as soon as possible.

Enrolment timetables

Before you attend your enrolment event please ensure that you have enrolled online (if applicable). We ask students to attend an enrolment event so that we can check and verify your original documents and check that your immigration status has not changed (if applicable).

Please note that this is simply an indication of the date of the event. The exact time and location of your enrolment event will be sent to your UAL email account as well as your personal account. Please ensure that you have enrolled online before attending your enrolment event.

When is my enrolment event?

The date, time and location of your enrolment event will be sent to your UAL email account along with a checklist of what to bring with you.
