Sunday 8 April 2018
4:30pm – 6:00pm
RSVP: alumni@arts.ac.uk

Join UAL China Alumni Association President, Ash Cheng (Chelsea, MA Textile Design) and Cheng Qian (LCF, Fashion Textiles), as they lead you through this hands on creative workshop exploring crafts and traditions from Dehong in Yunnan province.

Inspiration for this UAL workshop comes from Cheng Qian’s research of mengbanaxi, a form of paper cutting, created by local women across Dehong to show respect for Buddha. During her visit to the region, Cheng also learnt how important the use of bright colours is to local groups, as a method of expressing enthusiasm.

At this workshop attendees will mix traditions from Dehong with modern materials to create contemporary folk art in the form of a versatile mini bag.

Join us to learn new skills, meet fellow graduates and gain inspiration from ancient Chinese craft traditions.
